Lenox Centere Burial Grounds

Lenox Centere is an old place.  I do believe that this is the oldest cemetery that I have visited at this time.  I might be wrong but at least this place has the stone with the oldest date that I have found.  I took the Boy and the Girl with me this fine Saturday and we made a 70 mile round trip and visited five cemeteries in the most northern area of Macomb county.

Since I found my G,G,Great-grandpa's stone I have been doing a lot of genealogical work.  While the Furstenau name appears in our tree (briefly, and then only by marriage to some great aunt's sister) I did notice so I took this rock's picture.

 The burial grounds was full of many stones that were run down. Many were no longer readable.  I thought it sad that the memory of so many people who are significant to someone alive today will never again be remembered because their markers have fallen into disuse.

The stone below is the oldest that I have seen to date.  The name is for Cathrina A. Ellis and she died on March 26, 1819 at just 20 years old.  The United States of America's Independence Day is on July 4th., 1779.  That makes her life (assuming that she lived her 20 years here) part of our nations earliest adopters and likely one of Michigan's earliest inhibitors.  I'd very much like to learn about her story. 

Richards Cemetery

The Richards Cemetery has been one that I have seen hundreds of times in passing so it felt familiar but was not someplace that we have ever been to before. It is on 32 Mile Rd. just East of Omo Rd.  It has an Armada zip code but was something I considered more to be a Richmond place.  Anyway, it was nice and quiet toward the back, the Boy wants to come back and take a nap sometime.  Maybe later.

 There wasn't anything extraordinary about the place, no real stones of mention to speak of but it was nice all the same.

Meade Cemetery

 We visited the Meade Cemetery located on 26 Mile Rd. just east of North Avenue on 4/15/2015. (Yes, it has been almost 2 years since we visited our last cemetery - Ooops.)

This has been the most interesting of cemeteries to date but you might not think so from the photos. As me and the Boy were wandering though I noticed a name that I suspected was kin to me.  So I shot the pictures and checked when we got home. Sure enough they were.

 

You see this guy here? He is the Boy's Great-great-great-great Grandfather.

  

 And this woman was William's (1825) wife.  She is the Boy's G,G,G,Great-Grandma.

 

This is William Sr.'s eldest son August.

  

This is William Jr's stone - The second son of William Sr. (1825)

 

 

 Minnie was William Jr.,s Wife.

  

This was William Jr.'s first child (I think) but he only lived 6 years.

 

I really wish I could say how August fits into the family picture but my genealogical study has not divined this yet.  

So my mom was not aware that we had kin in this cemetery so I feel like I struck gold.
